Another tough shooting night doomed the Nevada Tigers as they were defeated 42-30 by the East Newton Patriots in Big 8 West basketball action Friday night in Granby.

It was the second straight game the Tigers could muster only 30 points in a contest.

After a couple of early lead changes, East Newton grabbed a 13-9 lead by the end of the first quarter and steadily stretched it out leading by six at halftme at 22-16 and by seven after three quarters at 31-24 before winning by a dozen.

Gabe Bergen led the Patriots with 13 points while Robert McFarland added 12 as East Newton improved to 6-5 and 1-0 in conference play.

Jerimia Collins paced Nevada with 9 points while Brice Budd added 8 but the Tigers fell to 2-12 overall and 0-2 in the Big 8 West.

Nevada did pick up wins in the preliminary games with a 35-29 victory over East Newton in the junior varsity contest and 42-31 in the "C" team game.

The Tigers return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Seneca to face the Indians as part of girl-boy doubleheader.
