DONOVAN'S GRAND SLAM LEADS CARDINALS TO WIN OVER PADRES

The St. Louis Cardinals avoided a sweep in San Diego with a 5-4 comeback win Thursday over the Padres.

Brendan Donovan drilled a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning for St. Louis, which snapped a three-game skid.

Lars Nootbaar also went deep in the victory. Prior to Thursday, the Redbirds had been shut out in three straight games.

Jack Flaherty gave up three runs, two earned, in six innings for his first win of the season. Giovanny Gallegos posted his 14th save.

The Cardinals remain seven-and-a-half games ahead of the Brewers in the NL Central. Jose Quintana starts for St. Louis against the Dodgers in Los Angeles Friday night at 9:10 p.m. central time.
