Xander Bogaerts and Alex Verdugo combined for seven of Boston's thirteen hits as the Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 7-4 Friday night to even up their four game series at a game apiece at Kauffman Stadium.

Bogaerts was 4 for 5 with an RBI while Verdugo collected three hits including a pair of doubles of Royals starter Zack Greinke.

Kansas City trailed 7-1 going to the bottom of the eighth and tried to make a game of it when they scored three runs on a sacrifice fly by Nate Eaton and a two run double from M. J. Melendez.

Vinnie Pasquantino led the Royals at the plate going 3 for 5 with a run scored. Greinke took the loss on the mound giving up four runs over 4 2/3 innings to fall to 3-7.

Red Sox starter Josh Winckowski earned the win to improve to 5-5. The righthander surrendered one run on five hits over five innings of work.

The Royals and Red Sox play game three of their four game series Saturday night at 6:10 p.m. in Kansas City.
