THREE RUN HOMER FROM PEREZ LEADS ROYALS TO 7-3 WIN OVER RED SOX

Date: August 5, 2022, 11:55 am

Salvador Perez smashed a three run home in the seventh to break open a one run game as the Kansas City Royals beat the Boston Red Sox 7-3 Thursday night in the start of a four game series at Kauffman Stadium.

Perez's blast was reviewed after it appeared to hit the wall below a railing in left but the original call stood. Boston manager, Alex Cora, was ejected when he continued to argue the decision. Royals manager Mike Matheny says Perez is hitting his stride.

Bobby Witt, Jr. broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh with an RBI single prior to Perez's home run.

Kris Bubic recorded his fourth straight no-decision in a quality start. The lefthander allowed two runs on four hits. Taylor Clarke got the win despite giving up a one run lead in the top of the seventh.

Former Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer made his Boston debut after being traded this week by the San Diego Padres. It was Hosmer's first game back at Kauffman since his final game as a Royal in 2017. Hosmer was 0 for 3 with a walk but he appreciated the cheers he received from Royals fans.
