Shohei Ohtani struck out 13 over eight scoreless innings as the Los Angeles Angels shut down the Kansas City Royals 5-0 in Anaheim Wednesday night.

Ohtani pitched eight complete innings giving up only two hits along with the thirteen strikeouts to improve to 6-4. Royals outfielder Whit Merrifield says Ohtani is a special athlete.

David MacKinnon drove in two runs for Los Angeles. The Angels are 34-and-38.

Merrifield and Andrew Benintendi provided the only hits for Kansas City with a pair of singles in the loss and fell to 25-43.

Daniel Lynch allowed one run over four and two thirds innings for the Royals and took the loss to fall to 3-7.

Kansas City takes Thursday off before starting at weekend series Friday night with the Oakland Athletics at Kauffman Stadium.
