FORT SCOTT HISTORIC SITE READIES FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Fort Scott National Historic Site will host a four day celebration for the 4th of July Holiday beginning Wednesday. At 6:30 p.m. on June 29th, the 35th Division Infantry Band will start off the celebration by performing a kaleidoscope of pops, classical, and patriotic music. Anyone wanting to celebrate with them is encouraged to bring lawn chairs to ensure seating. This event will take place on the bricks in front of the Post Hospital/Visitor Center.

Saturday through Monday of Independence Day weekend, Fort Scott NHS will have artillery demonstrations, tours, programs, and living history activities throughout the day. Monday will close out the celebration with an Artillery Demonstration at 2:00 p.m. and a Discussion on Civil War Medicine.

Visitors are reminded that fireworks are not permitted on the grounds of Fort Scott National Historic Site.
