Obituaries

Ronald Jay Besendorfer passed away March 25, 2020 in a motorcycle wreck in Louisiana. The Lamar High School graduate and former Nevada R-5 School District employee was 52. Arrangements were under direction of the Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, and a celebration of his life is scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Lamar Country Club. Memorials to the Washington University School of Medicine for research into Alzheimer's disease and neuroimaging are suggested.

Laverna Irene Collins passed away Tuesday, July 7, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada. Arrangements are under direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, and services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Assembly of God Church with burial to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family receives friends between seven and eight o'clock Saturday evening, July 11, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. 

Shirley McIntyre, Lockwood, passed away Monday, July 6, in Springfield. She was 87. Arrangements are under direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, and a graveside service was planned at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at Pippinger Cemetery, Lockwood. Memorials to the Alzheimers Association are suggested.

John Allen Noyes, Liberal, passed away Sunday, July 5. The retired farmer was 81. Services are planned at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, with visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9. A private family burial is also planned and memorials to the D.O.G.S. Foundation are suggested.

Edith Carrole "Sissy" Palmer, Fair Haven, passed away Friday, July 3, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. The 1960 graduate of Schell City High School was 77. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City, with Grady Davis officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday evening, July 7, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.

Max Duane Pyle, rural El Dorado Springs, passed away Friday, July 3, at his home. The 1960 graduate of Stockton High School was 78. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Ferry Funeral Home and burial followed in the Deerfield Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday evening, July 7, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Deerfield Cemetery are suggested and can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

James "Jim" Rankin, Rich Hill, passed away Friday, July 3, at his home. He was 73. Arrangements were under direction of Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, and a graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, in the Salem Cemetery. Memorials either to the Hume United Methodist Church or the Woodfin Cemetery were suggested and can be made in care of Heuser Funeral Home.

Mary Jane Buckner, Nevada, passed away Thursday, July 2, at her home. The retired Veterans Administration employee was 85. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Ferry Funeral Home with Father Peter Savidge officiating. Visitation was held Monday evening, July 6, at the funeral home. Memorials to St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital were suggested and can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Chester R. Greenstreet passed away Monday, July 6, at the age of 78. Arrangements were under direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, and a graveside service was scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, in the Hazel Dell Cemetery.

Betty Whitney passed away Friday, July 3, at the age of 89. Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, with burial to follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Memorials to the ASPCA are suggested and can be made in care of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Keeney, Lamar, passed away Tuesday, June 30. She was 81. Arrangements were under direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, and a service was held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, at the funeral home.

Barbara Roxanne (Boyd) Moore, Nevada, passed away Tuesday, June 30, at her home. The member of Nevada High School's Class of 1958 was 80. Arrangements are under direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and services are planned at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at the funeral home. Memorials either to the Ronald McDonald House, Joplin, or the American Cancer Society are suggested and can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Larry Allen Lepo Jr., Mindenmines, passed away Monday, June 29, in Joplin. The former Diesel Mechanic was 53. Arrangements were under direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, and a service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5, at the funeral home.

Kerry Lue Duncan, Sheldon, passed away Wednesday, June 24. She was 39. Arrangements were under direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Rinehart Christian Church with Pastors Elijah Pierson and Kevin Moyers officiating. Interment followed in the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon. Memorials to the Vernon County Youth Fair were suggested and can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Johnnie Delilah (Folkner) Medley, Moundville, Mo., passed away April 8, 2020 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. The Dederick, Mo. native was 102. A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Ferry Funeral Home with the Reverend Kay Zimmer officiating. Memorials to the Moundville Methodist Church were suggested.

Grace Earlene Myers, Fort Scott, Ks., passed away Wednesday, July 1. The native of Sprague, Mo., near Rich Hill, and 1942 graduate of the Fulton, Ks., High School was 94. Arrangements are under direction of the Cheney-Witt Chapel, Fort Scott, and a graveside service is scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, in the Good Spring Cemetery, Niangua, Mo.

Carolyn "Bid" (Cherry) Quarton Conway passed away Thursday, June 25, at St. Luke's Care Center, Carthage. The Nevada, Mo. native was 78. Arrangements were under direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage, and a graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, in the Park Cemetery, Carthage.

Eddie Willaim Shouse, of rural Butler, passed away Friday, June 26th, at his home. The El Dorado Springs native was 77. Arrangements are under direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, and a service was planned 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, at the funeral home and burial was to follow in Butler's Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials to the Friendship Inn are suggested.

Alvin J. Briscoe, Rich Hill, passed away April 27. The 1967 Rich Hill High School graduate and the owner of several businesses was 70. Arrangements were under direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel and a celebration of his life is scheduled at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the funeral home in Butler. Visitation is planned between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the funeral home.

Paul Elliott Lauderback, Jr., rural Walker, passed away Saturday, June 20, at his home. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Ferry Funeral Home and burial followed in Newton Burial Park. The family received friends between six and seven o'clock Friday evening, June 26, at the funeral home, 301 S. Washington Street, Nevada. Memorials to the American Heart Association are suggested.

Karen L. Atkins, Nixa, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 23rd, at Cox Medical Center-South, Springfield, Mo. The Fort Scott, Kansas native was 71. Arrangements are under direction of the Peterson Funeral Home, Aurora, Mo., and a memorial service is to be scheduled later in Fort Scott.

Wilma Jean Irvin, Nevada, passed away Sunday, June 21. The 1953 Nevada High School graduate was 85. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Ferry Funeral Home with Mark Mitchell officiating. Burial followed in Newton Burial Park. The family received friends Thursday evening, June 25, at Ferry Funeral Home and memorials to the Mo-Kan Square Dancers of Nevada were suggested.

John Carmichael, Nevada, passed away April 13. The former Nevada R-5 School Superintendent was 92. Arrangements were under direction of Ferry Funeral Home and a memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Nevada R-5 Foundation were suggested.

Tommy Ruth (Smith) Russell passed away Tuesday, June 23. The retired bank teller was 63. Arrangements were under direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, and services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the Eagles Club. Memorials to St. Jude's Hospital were suggested.

Mary Frances Sallee passed away Thursday, June 25, at the age of 87. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, and burial followed in the Mound Cemetery. Memorials to the Mound Cemetery were suggested.

Jackie Lee Kountz, Lamar, passed away Monday, June 22, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, at the age of 70. Arrangements are under direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, Fort Scott, Ks., and a graveside service in the National Cemetery at Fort Scott is to be scheduled later. Memorials to a Jackie Kountz fund are suggested and can be made in care of the funeral home, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott.

Thomas Wayne Fecht, Nevada, passed away Thursday, June 18, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. The former building trades instructor, school bus driver and contractor was 94. Arrangements were under direction of Ferry Funeral Home and no services were planned.

Jeremy L. Holmes, El Dorado Springs, passed away Tuesday, June 17, at his home. He was 26. Arrangements were under direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home and services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at the Union Hall Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs, Memorials to a fund for the family were suggested.

Hazel Ione Chancellor, Lamar, passed away Wednesday, June 17, at Freeman Medical Center, Joplin. The retired nurse at Barton County Memorial Hospital was 94.
