Obituaries

Laney Amber (Metcalf Wilkins) Miller, Nevada, passed away Thursday, May 6. The 2010 graduate of Nevada High School and Woods Supermarket employee was 29. Arrangements are under direction of Ferry Funeral Home and a graveside service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, in Nevada's Moore Cemetery. The family receives friends between one and three o'clock Sunday afternoon, May 9, at Ferry Funeral Home and memorials to a scholarship fund for her children are suggested.

Dr. L. Bruce Holman, Roach, Mo., passed away April 24. The retired Cottey College professor was 82. Arrangements are under direction of the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, Mo., and a private service is to be scheduled later.

Frances LaVerne Crooks, Nevada, passed away Monday, May 3, at her home. The 1960 Walker High School graduate was 79. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Dr. Kevin Daugherty officiating. Interment followed in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Memorials to the Living Faith Mennonite Choir were suggested and can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Bernadine E. "Beth" Ricketts passed away Friday, April 30, at the Willard Care Center. She was 66. Arrangements were under direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and committal services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 6, at Welborn Cemetery, Moundville.

Owen Douglas Lunn passed away Monday, April 26, at the Crestwood Rehabilitation Center, Florissant, Mo. The Durant, Ok. native was 49. A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Ferry Funeral Home and friends may call before the service.

Sherri Burres passed away Sunday, April 25, at Ingleside, Illinois. She was 60. A graveside service was jeld at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery. Visitation was held between ten and eleven o'clock Wednesday morning, May 5, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.

Ruth Mische, Nevada, passed away Tuesday, April 27, at The Groves in Independence, Mo. The member of the Nevada Church of the Nazarene was 94. A service was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Ferry Funeral Home with the Reverend Tyler Allen officiating and burial followed in the Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Visitation was held prior to the service. Tuesday, May 4.

David Wayne Carpenter, Deerfield, passed away Wednesday, April 28, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. The 1976 graduate of Nevada High School and current R-5 District employee was 62. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, at Ferry Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Smith officiating. A committal's to be scheduled later in the Deerfield Cemetery. Visitation was held at ten Monday morning, May 3, at Ferry Funeral Home and memorials to the Deerfield Cemetery Association were suggested.

Darin Earl "D-J" Lumley, Jr., El Dorado Springs, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 25. He would have been 14 Saturday, May 8. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 3, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home amd burial followed in the Clintonville Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday evening, May 2, at the funeral home and memorials to a fund for the family were suggested.

Bonnie O'Neal, Lamar, passed away Saturday, May 1. The retired teacher was 78. Arrangements are under direction of the Daniel Funeral Home and a service was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Lamar's First Baptist Church and burial followed in the Lake Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday evening, May 3, at Daniel Funeral Hiome, 1201 Broadway in Lamar. Memorials either to the building fund at the First Baptist Church, Lamar, or the Lake Cemetery were suggested,

Reba Fae Simmons, Lamar, passed away Saturday, May 1, at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage. The 1947 Lamar High School graduate was 91. Services are scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at Konantz Warden Funeral Home, Lamar, following a visitation that starts at 12-noon. Memorials either to the American Cancer Society or the Nigh Cemetery are suggested.

Donna Gail (Redford) Martin, formerly El Dorado Springs, passed away Friday, April 30, at the Laurels of Dekalb at Butler, Indiana. She was 90. Arrangements were under direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home and services were held at ten o'clock Saturday morning, May 8, at the Blackjack Church of God (Holiness) near Stockton. Byruak followed in the Love Cemetery. Visitaton was held between six and eight o'clock Friday evening, May 7, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Jessie Leona Hicks, Fort Scott, passed away Sunday, May 2, at her home. She was 74. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at the Cheney-Witt Chapel, Fort Scott, with the Reverend Kevin Moyers officiating and burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation was held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, May 6, at the funeral home and memorials to the American Kidney Fund were suggested.

Cleo Margaret Cagle, Fort Scott, passed away Saturday, May 1, at the Fort Scott-Medialodge. The Greenfield, Mo. native was 83. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the Cheney-Witt Chapel, Fort Scott, and burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation was held between six and eight o'clock Tuesday evening, May 4, at Cheney-Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott. Memorials to the Arma, Ks. American Legion were suggested.

Joe Lloyd Roe, Lamar, passed away December 11, 2020 at Cox Hospital, Springfield. The former insurance agent was 96. Arrangements were under direction of Daniel Funeral Home and visitation was held between one and two o'clock Saturday, May 1, at the funeral home in Lamar.

Teddy Gene "Ted" Landis passed away February 27 at his home, Arkansas. The former employee at hospitals in Nevada, Mo., Fredonia, Kansas and St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas was 76. A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Piney Grove United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Ar. Visitation precedes the service. Memorials either to the church or a charity of the donor's choice are suggested.
